The Story of Cinderella
Cinderella is a timeless tale about a young woman whose life is shaped by unfair treatment within her own home. Living under the control of her stepmother and stepsisters, she is expected to work endlessly while others enjoy comfort and privilege, yet she faces each day with hope.
When an unexpected opportunity arises, help arrives from a Fairy Godmother, leading to a royal ball where Cinderella and the Prince meet again under very different circumstances. As the night unfolds, the striking of midnight brings everything to a sudden halt, leaving behind a single clue and setting events in motion. At its heart, Cinderella is a story about possibility and change.
What Is a Pantomime?
Pantomime, often called panto, is a traditional form of family theatre that began in Britain in the 18th century, inspired by Italian commedia dell’arte. Today, pantomime is a lively mix of storytelling, comedy, music, dance and audience participation.
One of pantomime’s most famous traditions is talking back to the stage! Audiences are encouraged to shout phrases like “Behind you!”, “Oh no it isn’t!” and “Oh yes it is!” to warn characters of danger or cheer the heroes on. Don’t be shy — joining in is part of the fun!

Who Wrote Cinderella — and When?
The most famous written version of Cinderella was published in 1697 by Charles Perrault, a French author who collected and adapted fairy tales for families and children. However, Cinderella’s story is much older — versions of it exist in ancient China, Greece and Europe, making it one of the most widespread stories in history.
Perrault’s version introduced many of the elements we recognise today, including the glass slipper, the Fairy Godmother, and the magical transformation at midnight. These enchanting details helped turn Cinderella into a timeless classic that continues to be retold on stage, page and screen.
